North Florida (Jacksonville) Repair Recommendation? (Flashing CEL, diagnosis?)

Hello all,

I live in Jacksonville FL, and yesterday, as I was driving home from work, I noticed a slight whine in the engine, and every often when I would stop, the oil light would flash on for a brief moment, and then disappear. My oil gauge showed that my oil was a bit low, and the dipstick also showed that I was a little low on the oil, so I put a quart in. When I started the engine, the 2000 Boxster began revving itself, upwards of 1000 RPM, and made a slight knocking sound. I turned the engine off, waited a few minutes, turned the car back on, and everything seemed fine.

I drove the car around the block, taking it into third gear and upwards of 5000 RPM, with seemingly no problem. As I was making a turn to pull back onto my street, the flashing CEL came on, the car lost a bit of power (though not a complete loss), and there was a substantial amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust.

First, does anyone know whether or not this sounds like an AOS problem, or a MAF problem? Second, I know of Brumos Porsche here in Jacksonville, but can anyone recommend a great mechanic that is possibly a little less expensive? Thanks!
