not sure if this has been posted here yet, but pelican has put up a series of disassembly photos from a failed boxster motor. enjoy!

On page three or four, while they are putting in Raby's upgraded IMS bearing, they wrote this:

So, with the old bearing out, we're now going to install the new upgrade bearing available from LN Engineering. This new bearing assembly contains a special exotic ceramic-coated ball bearing integrated with a specially designed, beefy intermediate shaft cover. At the time that this is being written, Pelican Parts is working with Softronic to develop a much less expensive kit that uses parts very similar to the OEM ones.

I think I'd rather spend the extra money to sleep better at night knowing I had a rock-solid IMS bearing in there after all that work pulling the old one.

no joke! $600 is cheap insurance.

Cheap= What causes these same damn problems to begin with.

There is a required cost. You will spend that required cost now or later. Either way it will be spent.

Jake, is yours and the one from LN similar or the same?

LN Engineering and my company work very closely to develop, test and apply components like the IMS bearing upgrades.

The components that we sell are the same, but the engine program is 100% Flat 6 Innovations as LN does not build engines.

It's "choose two." ;)

On PURELY ENGINE standpoint, i'll choose three

The Toyota Celica engine....Like on the Elise :D , BUT the carbon fiber body is definitely $$$$ to repair.

What can i do, i got bitten by the "Porsche Heritage" bug after 3 Porsches... :)

I like how on the article it says that a level 1 is adding air to your tires and a level 10 is rebuilding a porsche engine. As it says for every pelican parts article.

But for this article (rebuilding a Boxster engine) its a level 4. Maybe Boxster engines are simpler than regular (911) Porsche engines? :D

ah, but they only DISASSEMBLED the motor! putting it all back together properly is a bit more of a challenge!

Nah, how about using THE Toyota 2UR-GSE* engine ?? In my dreams!! :cheers:

Sure it is. Slap an e-bay turbo on it, or a 200-shot of nitrous, and you have cheap and fast.

...but you will have a bit of a reliability problem. ;)

I hope you don't really mean what you're suggesting, though... That fast and reliable is not a combination that you can put together... At least, I hope that's not what you mean, for the sake of your business. (Particularly since I may be a customer of yours in the next couple of years. :) )

I thought that was funny as well, so much that I let the wife read over it and she thought it was ridiculous as well.

She commented that maybe they didn't know how to put it back together. :eek:

Those are good videos, but lots of critical things are not gone over...

Hey Jake,

Where are those dyno reports you promised us (re: exhaust performance) weeks ago?? I can't wait to see them.
Might as well post the exhaust dyno reports, with the build up report, timing DVD...etc...etc. :D
