Replacing rear wheel bearings
 

I have a bad wheel bearing on the rear passenger side of my 01 Boxster S. I already have the replacement bearing but just curious if I need any special tools to remove and replace it? I have pretty much every tool you could need to work on cars but I did notice on Paragon Porsche that they sold a wheel bearing tool. Is that something specific for a Porsche?

as far as special tools, you're referring to the hub/bearing puller made by SIR Tools. (it's referenced in the attached link). pretty pricey, which is why I rented one.

I ended up renting it from a forum member on renntech. I'm actually in the middle of doing the job myself, but ran out of time yesterday. Hopefully I'll be done by mid week (since I have next to little free time and work slowly :) . If you want, I can contact the member and see if he's willing to rent to you once I'm finished.

Great article! Wish wish that guy was local...as it sounds like I have a second bearing going - Driver's rear this time. Last fall the passenger rear cost $700 at the dealer!

I decided to get all four done so I could rule it out as a source of noise and vibration and sleep better for the next four or five years.
