metal vibration/rattling sound

Sometimes when I drive my Boxster i'l hear a ratting sound. It's completely random. IT sounds like some sort of metal is being vibrated and making the shaking sound. Does anyone have any exerience or knowledge of this.

Mike,

This is usually the heat shields around the exhaust caused by loose and/or rusted fasteners.

When the engine is cool, check for the rattle from underneath the engine area around the exhaust.
Or, the next time you have the car in for service ask them to check for you.

Take care,
Ed
