Overfill Oil a bit for track use
Hi all,
Just noticed insite's blown motor and Jake's comment about oil starvation, so I am wondering if it is common practice to over fill the oil a bit for track use. On my 968 for instance, we over fill by 1/2 QT to keep it from getting oil starvation on long sweeping left handers.....

I think an x51 oil pan would be a better choice. More costly but the extra baffels will keep the oil in place, as I understand it.
Check with the Box spec guys.

I *think* somewhere around 250+ usd before the mod.
Like I said man, check on the box spec board, i'm sure they'll be more help than my memory lol
edit.. i'm just throwing in a alternative to the issues that adding the extra 1/2 quart will give you.

The real solution is our accusump accumulator kit, coupled to the deep sump (ours has a pick up tube extension) as well as adding the sump baffles...
We have made our own version of the X 51 oil pan and almost have it ready to market, its being tested next week for the final time... All these are DIY components that make the engine more resilient to starvation that leads to most all track failures.
Overfilling can cause other issues and reduces performance due to windage.

Please let us know when it is available and how much. Is this something we can do next time we change the oil? I know that we have to drop the oil pan, but I am wondering how much is involved. On the 968 for instance (and yes it is a front engined car...), you have to take out the steering rack, remove the sways, undo the motor mounts, take off the front suspension pick-up points, take out the engine brace (and brace the engine from above...). It is a lot of work to get to the oil pan.

I posted the install DVDs for the deep sump on youtube, see how simple it is to install there, just do a search...
As for the accusump, the kit will be done next week... We are installing one in one of our test cars along with a new high torque 2.9 tomorrow..
Lots of people are waiting on the accusump arrangement made especially for the Boxster.

Accusump is old technology...it's 25 y.o., time-tested and it works!... Used to have it on my MR2 Turbo (track car).
But, it's a PITA on mid-engines. For occaisional AX or DE, it's overkill (sorry Jake - don't want to intentionally take the food from your mouth), in this case, the deep sump w/ baffles is an adequate solution.
For a 'dedicated' car, the Accusump makes alot of sense.
