01 boxster Engine SMOKE

88K miles, 4 months pass the 2yr used Porsche warranty.
car has been trouble free except left rear bearing. no oil leak, no oil consumption. in fact, this is the first time i have not changed oil at 7500 mile, at 13000 miles since last oil change, dipstick and sensor indicator both read 100% oil.

came back from work, after dinner plan to go to local tech store.
Started the car. funny grunt. turn ignition key again and the car started.
little heavier than normal white puff .. but when i started to drive down the street, more smoke, then none. got on the freeway and all hell broke lose. white smoke all over . got off the freeway and drove the car back.. about 1 mile total.
The smoke engulfed the street in front of my home as though my house was on fire.

at home, couple of engine on off and i noticed oil leak just behind the driver's seat. looking from the back of the car, it looks like at the left front corner of the engine. top of the engine and basically everywhere that i can see with flashlight looks dry.
looked at the dip stick and the sensor indicator, it seems that the car drank all of its oil in matter of couple of minutes. no cel or indicator of problem. coolant temp is normal
no oil in the coolant, no over pressure at the oil or the coolant filler cap.
smoke is not caused by antifreeze- it does not have the sweet smell. also the reservoir level is normal.

my optimistic assessment is that the driver's side return oil pump died and that side filled with oil and went into the intake of the engine.

other than the smoke and hesitation at times due to oil soaked plug, the engine runs and sounds normal.

will have the local dealer inspect it asap.

any comments, thoughts, past experience?
assistance is greatly received.

Check out your oil seperator, sounds like it went bad. no biggie.

thanks for the advise. will make detailed inspection today during the daytime.

looked at the engine top to bottom. no sign of external problem.
would film of oil at the bottom of the airfilter box and dripping out of the water trap point to aos malfunction?
just surprised at the amount of smoke that came out of the exhaust!

took today off from work with the thought to replace aos myself.
thinking about potential collateral damage of do it yourself work.
talked with Porsche service, he mentioned that when aos goes, it's like F1 engine blowing up. lots of smoke.
he gave me couple of quarts to drive 1 mile. drove it in, getting it fix along with 90K service and replacing a bad key fob...
the price of driving a fun car.

something similar happened to me recently but without the engine grunt -- it was my power steering hose leaking onto the manifold.

Another area to check is the infamous AOS...good luck
