Stiff Clutch

I have a 2003 Boxster with 16K miles on it (purchased it with 13K on it). The clutch pedal has alwasys been kind of hard to push down. Has anybody ever found what causes this besides worn out clutch? I have seen several people ask this question but never really seen it answered?
Thanks

Usually it's one of two or both things here
1) when the pressure plate ages it'll get harder to press the clutch down
2) when the clutch fork or transmission input shaft run low on grease it'll become more labor intensive to floor the clutch pedal.
