Diagonal brace removal
I need to remove one of the rear diagonal braces. My neighbor has a lift in his garage and it's one of those you drive on to. Does the suspension have to be unloaded to remove the brace? My cheap eBay header is rubbing on the brace and it makes a really annoying sound/vibration. Really, really, really annoying.

You can remove the diagonal w/o unloading the suspension. It'll be maybe more difficult to reach everything working around the ramps, but doable. Of course, you're not going to permanently remove it - disasterous results.

Thanks lil b.
I'm not taking it off permanently. |
I'm pretty sure that Porsche recommends you only remove the diagonal braces when the car is supported at the four jacking points. Otherwise (they suggest) you might need an alignment. I personally don't see how this could be so but it is from the horse's mouth for whatever that's worth.

Ended up not using a lift. I put the rear on jackstands, took off the brace, fixed the problem and put it back on. So far, so good.

He had changed the tranny oil with the car on ramps (suspension loaded). I had to raise it off the ground on stands and practically loosen everything again before the skid plate would fall into place. If he would have installed a TechnoBrace, things wouldn't have shifted. ;) Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
