DeSnorkel?

I've searched, and I can't find anything. Sorry for what might be a stupid question to the more experienced owners/members but what exactly is a desnorkel and what is the purpose? Is it simple an auditory enhancement and what the pros or cons?

Thank you for your responses in advance.

Search again, desnorkeling has been so heavily covered on this forum, I doubt there's another fresh question that can be asked on the subject.

Desnorkling refers to removing the intake snorkel that's tucked inside in the left hand intake behind the drivers door. The snorkel cuts down on the intake noise. The snorkel is oval and tapered 6 inches long. The intake end has about a 2 1/2" x 3" opening. Once removed the opening is 3"x 4".

Cheap (free) upgrade.

I felt about an 5whp increase on the butt dyno.

I tried it on my 2.7L. Felt nothing, but was annoyed by the waahhh sound. Sounded cheap and fake to me so I put the snorkle back on. Worth a try. Cheapest hack going!
