3.4 motor FS
I'm wishing I was bidding on this motor for my car, but alas, I'm spending $3k on suspension stuff right now and can't swing it. One of you should buy it though so I can live vicariously through you. |
I know everyone has their ideas about swapping out their engine for a low-mileage used unit. For what its worth, my indy mechanic, who I really trust, said he would never recommend doing a swap with a used motor, too much of a gamble for him, especially when you take into account how much the labor costs with the swap. He said he has seen a number of times where the used motor in the swap developed problems a short time after the swap. For me, the peace of mind going with a rebuilt motor would be worth the price of admission. But where I would come up with the funds for a rebuilt.........

What suspension components are you getting? Just curious, as I have some creaking & clunking going on right now. It's in the shop awaiting a verdict. |
Cost of rebuilt engine...
So, if 10-12K for a new/rebuilt Porsche engine is too pricey for your budget, I thought you might find this interesting. I just got a pricelist from one of my high-end audio speaker cable companies. Prices go something like this:
KS3038™ Terminated pairs KS3038-3'(0.9m) $5,110.00 KS3038-4'(1.2m) $6,360.00 KS3038-5'(1.5m) $7,610.00 KS3038-6'(1.8m) $8,860.00 KS3038-7'(2.1m) $10,110.00 KS3038-8'(2.5m) $11,360.00 KS3038-10'(3.0m) $13,860.00 KS3038-12'(3.7m) $16,360.00 KS3038-15'(4.5m) $20,110.00 So, if you took the 8' pair I listed what you would get would be two eight foot lenghts of speaker cable that would connect your stereo or monoblock amplifier(s) to your two loudspeakers. All for the sum of $11,360.00. Yes boys and girls, thats over 11K or the cost of a sweet rebuilt Porsche engine for two pieces of speaker cable. Now, lets see, do I want a pair of speaker cables or a new 3.4L engine for my Boxster, decisions, decisions..... Ed :D |
Ah the joys of the high end audiophile world ;)

Not that great of a deal for a 3.4L with 33k miles. I posted a 3.6L on here a couple months ago and it sold with no reserve for 5k. It did have about 60- 70k miles on it...but still. That was one of the better deals I've seen considering a rebuilt 3.6 unit from Porsche is about double that.

Ed, don't forget the essential Shunyata Dark Field Cable Elevators. ;)
