0-100 mph run bad on cold engine?
 

just wondering the effects, say you startup the boxster and immediately start beating on it.. healthy?

cold oil, not lubricating the parts,, cant be any good..

cold oil, as previously stated, doesn't get to all the parts quickly enough/in enough quantities.

The metal bits in the engine (read: almost all of the engine) expand as it gets warm and is designed be driven hard when its all expanded and what not

I would have to agre with Sputter ... not the best idea in the world. Porsches hold a lot of oil that needs to warm up properly. Is the engine going to explode? Probably not, but it will certainly wear a little faster.

Actually, I think if you keep the RPM's below 4,000 when doing an acceleration on a cold engine from 0-100 you should be OK. Not ideal...but just OK.

I was just in this scenerio!!!!! My brother came over to see the new car (2000 boxster)....I knew exaclty what was going to happen......so I drove it around the block twice, made sure the temp was over 180....and parked it........9 minutes later my brother arrives......gets out of his 350z.....sure enough......he gets on it!

I don't know, if it were me I would think about it being cold....some people don't!!!!!

I constantly tell my brother not to drive his car so hard when its cold, especially because he has an air cooled Porsche. Dude guns it around like he stole it when its cold.

It is best to stay under 4k RPM until the car has heated up to 180°. So you could accelerate slowly to 100mph without any problems. But I see no reason why you would want to do that. I wouldn't want to unnecessarily beat on my Boxster especially when that can easily lead to a pricey engine replacement.
Just wait the few extra minutes for the car to heat up, then rev it up to 6k+. :cheers:
