Upgrading factory rear speakers

Hi All,

I have a 2000 986 with the DSP sound system which includes the rear speakers. I'm looking at replacing the Nokia speakers with better speakers as a first step in improving audio. Has anyone followed this path? If so, what speakers have you used and with what results? The factory Nokia's are ~3 inches and all of the replacement candidates I have seen are 3.5 inches. Looks like they can be squeezed in there with a minimal amount of mod to the enclosure. Any other options out there?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

he didn't went I checked it out, but he will prolly repost soon. They are something like $220 and go where the stock ones went. They are supposed to be better than stock as well.
Also, you can opt to ditch the entire rear storage cabinet and have custom boxes made for speakers behind the seats.

Hope this helps

I appreciate the info fragdude. My preference is to retain the factory storage cabinet and just replace the 4 speakers.

I am pretty sure the speakers in the rear are 3.5", maybe you measured the cone as 3"?
I don't think you would have any problem swapping them with the same size, and if you do have to modify the bracket, it shouldn't be too hard. I believe the eBay kit uses Polk speakers, which most people are really happy with. You might also consider putting some tweeters in.
