rear shocks on a '97
 

I own a 97 boxster with about 50K on it. Anyone have any issues with the rear shocks blowing out? Or for that matter, what kind of life are you guys seeing in your rear struts?

Had the same problem around 60K. Wondered if this is common?

i have the same model with 107.000km but i don´t know what problem are you tallking about.

It would not be strange for a shock to fail at 50 or 60 K in any car. Haivng said that, I have not seen a "pattern" in my Boxsters. Perhaps the local dealer service dept can shed some light for you.

My car is fine with 45K on the clock.

Having mine done right now with 43k on the clock. I'm going with the Bilsteins though. I want the ride a bit firmer.

This was found by a mechanic who works for the dealership where I bought it from. Didn't see any real signs of wear myself.

Anyone else change to Bilsteins?

its interesting. a couple days ago, my rear end was producing a popping noise when i went over a speed bump, but i cannot get the car to duplicate the sound even when trying to create a serious weight shift during cornering. By all means i try to avoid speed bumps, and when i do entercouter them, i go extremely slow over them. Also, i checked my rear trunk and it was completely empty. has anyone else heard this noise? I assumed it was my rear struts, but now i am not so sure.

Why?

Besides slamming something so hard you bend it, say by becoming airborn, what is the problem with going over a speedbump at a moderate speed?
