What year is your Boxster? I have a 1997 that snapped the transmission cables for the roof and resulted in the clamshell not moving. If it is in the "down" position and the cables are bad you are lucky. Often these break when moving the top and bend the clamshell. This is common on older 986's. Check Randall's website for more info. I paid the stealership $1500 to replace the broken cables. My clamshell was not bent as I stopped the top immediatly when I saw the clamshell begin to flex. Good luck.
