Post your interior/exterior mods
I have a carbon spray center console on order for very cheap and I will let you guys know how that turns out, I got the boxster S aluminum gauges and ring bezels, smoked front side markers and corner headlight pieces... i am waiting for my pocket covers also in carbon spray and I am in the process of trying to get the gauge surround in carbon fiber.
Anyone have a working set of litronics for sale with everything to do a retrofit? I will post my pics later tonight when I get home from work...show me YOUR BOXSTERs!!! |
Can you guys also post where you got it and what you feel about that mod
|
The only "mod" I did on the interior is to super glue a set of Air Force wings to the center console, where folks sometimes put a "986" badge, right above the shifter. Cost around $2, means a lot to me, and looks cool. I'm sure that's not what you're looking for, but hey, we all have our egos.
:) |
Only int/ext mods I have are porsche umbrella for the passenger foot slit, "986" door stills, "986" rear trunk lid badge, clear corners, and strosek "911 turbo style" wing.
|
I'd love one of those nifty umbrellas but I refuse to drive my boxster in the rain, so I can't justify it!
I just might give it to my car for Christmas though. I do know the wife bought me new floormats from suncoast porsche. By the way, if you all don't know about suncoast, they sell genuine porsche stuff from their parts counter (it's a dealership) for cost +15%. Got a quote on a refurbished and warranted transmission for 2160.00, which is nearly 850.00 LESS than my local dealer wants for the same thing. |
Oh, I don't plan to ever use the umbrella, I just got it to fill the little hole :) I have a second regular umbrella in the driver side arm hole for rain.
|
well I will post it again, but my cars little website is www.09860.com
I have several pics of what the car looks like on the outside. The pics are a little old. not shown in those pics are the carbon fiber intakes I added. I will post those pics with this thread below. I will try to take a couple pics to show the inside. I have done the carbon fiber gear shifter and 986 badges inside. I also added an Alpine IVA-D901 with built in DVD so my passenger can watch movies while on road trips.... http://www.09860.com/ppics/1.jpg http://www.09860.com/ppics/2.jpg |
man your car loooooks awesome!!!!!!!!!!
|
keep them coming...Ill show you my new carbon console this weekend...it only cost me $225 to get it painted and it looks exactly the same as a regular carbon console without the hassle of the maintence
|
thanks...its a 2000 lots of time and money have gone into her...I will keep her forever! shes paid off and only hits the road on nice days and weekends...she just turned 32 k miles. Car almost never sees rain...only when stuck in it...
|

Has anyone seen the gemballa floormats for the boxsteR? there pure sex!
|
no havent seen them....but if anyones got a pic I would be interested in what they look like. I got my 986 floor mats for about $50 for the pair.
|
What body parts are those?
jfmillr - I'm particularly interested in what side skirts and rear spoiler those are?
|
My sideskirts are made by Gemballa, and my rear wing is a Strosek Turbo wing and incase anyone is curious the carbon fiber intakes are made by Koklen
|
jfmiller - where did you get the wing / side skirts done and how much were they, if you don't mind my asking?
and have you done any performance mods? |
I dont recall 100% but to give you a ballpark figure, the sideskirts were about 1800 and painted and installed including having the skirts seam sealed to the car was another 500-600. I ordered the sideskirts directly from Gemballa in Germany. The Strosek wing was about $600 and another 300 painted and installed.
As for my mods I have had my ECU remapped, new air intake, wide throttle body. TTP headers with foward CAT delete, new pipes from headers to new high flow cats to RUF muffler. I just put a 5 k deposit on my twin turbo kit. I still need to give another 8 k before I will have them. I am getting my twin turbos through TTP. I have done Bilstein coil over shocks. New strut and sway bars. Eurathane bushings. 10 mm wheel spacers. Also did the B&M short shifter and aluminum linkage for short shifter. As for suspension and engine thats about all I have done at the moment. Thinking about doing some 19" wheels sometime this winter. Havent picked them out yet though. Hope this answers some questions. |
These are the floormats. These isnt a verygood picture but its pic #3.
http://www.gemballausa.com/986boxster_interior.asp You can get the piping done in whatever color you like. They just look awesome first hand |
The car looks great. The only thing I would say you're missing is some nice wheels. The stock wheels do not do it justice with the body package you did. :)
Anyone interested can click the link in my signature for some pics. For now, here is some shine. :D |
And...
|
i love the look of those spacers. How much did they run and where did you get them? your running 5mm spacer correct?
|
Nothing like a freshly clay'd and polished panel on a sexy car.
Here is my friends car after I detailed it. :) |
Yes, it's the 5mm kit that Porsche dealer sell from the anniversary edition Boxter S. I got mine for around $300 from Rick Knab at Suncoast. You'll also need the longer lugs which he sells. :)
|
Thanks Stryke,
yeah the car looks good. I am planning on new wheels here soon. I am looking to get some 19" wheels. Just not sure which ones I am going to get yet. |
wheel option
I think the kinesis wheels look darn good...the k58/59 style appeals to me, and I like that they offer different color options...I just got a price quote on some k58's (the 18" version) in 8 f 10 r with a medium grey anno w/ polished lip and they're going to run about $4,500...ouch. great looking and light wheel though.
|
If any of you guys are interested in wheels then feel free to use Arling at Lucent Motors in CA and tell him that Gil aka Stryke sent you. He is the best in the business. Excellent service and the best prices. I highly recommend him.
http://www.lucentmotor.com/ I have no affiliation with him but he's a friend through business and is highly regarded by many Porsche enthusiasts. :) |
yeah those are pretty nice. How much do they weigh? Anyone know how much the stock 18" wheel wiegh? Idealy I would like to reduce the wieght of my wheels by half. Hopefully I can find something nice and strong and yet extremely lightweight.
|
My hollow sport techno's are bigger than my stock ones and weigh significantly less. When you go with a wider wheel though you will slightly reduce acceleration so the light weight is washed out by the wider tires. Still improves handling though, especially with the spacers. :)
|
here's a consideration
I know some people are down on wheel spacers, but one way to go it the way my car is set up. (I'm not taking credit for it...I bought it this way)
I've got big spacers 15mm front and 21mm rear with stock width (7.5" f 50mm offset, 9" r 52mm offset) rims. this way you get a nice, wide stance, without the added weight of wider wheels or wider tires. The issue I have with my setup is that I'd like a lighter wheels, so I'm strongly considering staying with the wheel size that I have, continuing with the spacers, and just swapping for a lighter wheel. My car doesn't have any extra body work, so that's a difference between our setups...but with my stock bodywork and a 20mm drop my setup fills the wheel wells great and gives it that great aggressive look. here's a pic of the rear to give you an idea. |
when you talk about lightweight, you cant beat BBS and Kinesis wheels. However if you want cool and and a really mean look, go with DPE's or HRE's with a 3in deep dish rim in the back and 1.5 dish in front. They will look awesome esp with a custom offset they can do.

jfmillr / Stryke:
Nice cars! How difficult was it to install the B&M short shifter kit and linkage and how long did it take? How do you like it? Stryke, did you install your Litronics? How difficult was the installation and how do you like them? Are they self leveling or do they need to be aimed after installation? TIA, Derek |
My Litronics came with the car as an option. The B&M took me 2 hours and can probably be done the second time around in an hour. I would not drive another car without it. Best $200 ever spent on the car! :)
|
sell me you litronics!!!!!!!!!
|
I didnt go so big on the wheel spacers. I only did 10 mm on front and back. Any bigger and my tires would rub the endge of the wheel well. I have 275s on the back and 225s on front and with the offset I am already pushing the boundries.
FYI I had the litronics installed and it was a little bit of a pain having everything wired properly, but they make all the difference in the world. Much better then the stock headlights mine came with... |
Not selling my litronics, but I got them for right at $1050 from Suncaost in Florida. If your interested I would suggest buying them through them. Much cheaper then most places....

Here's a really cool website with weights of many different wheels. http://www.wheelweights.net/ Damn, I just noticed on the website that the SSR GT3's are a porky 24+lbs. :( |
actauuly I was wrong about it being half the wieght but not too far off. I found my ATS wheels are 7 lbs lighter then the factory wheels I have, so I guess it is about 35-40% lighter rim weight.
