Metallic Knocking Noise... scared!!
Hi
Recently purchased a 97 Boxster... 69k miles full service history etc. Clean car. 3 days in and a horrific rattle kicked in in the engine. It's a metallic knock noise that's timed to the rev of the engine. Also when idling. Straight to Porsche Authorised Service Centre. After days trying to get the head off they tell me it's a problem with Piston no. 1. The piston can be moved freely with hand. It's the "looseness" that's causing the problem. They've never seen the problem before! I'm told another 12 - 20 hours (at €120 per!) to further investigate and (hopeully) complete the fix. Anyone have any ideas on this? Does it need a new engine?? Thanks K |
Do you mean the piston can be be moved in the barrel freely [side to side], or it goes up and down freely.
I hate to say either way maybe big problems. Did you look at the engine head. If so what did it look like. Scott |
Thanks.
I haven't seen it... just word from the mechanic guy. Based on what he said I'm confident that it moves up and down freely... not side to side. If I get to see the head is ther anything particular that I should look for? Thanks again! K |
