6spd transmission input shaft seal
Hello All,
After removing the transmission from my 2001 BoxsterS (installing a new clutch and replacing a leaking RMS) I found the seal on the transmission input shaft leaking as well. The input shaft seal looks like it can be changed from the bell housing side, however the Bentley manuel I have does not go into transmission service at all so I am not certain of the proper way to replace this seal. Do not want to mess things up! If anyone can tell me the proper way of replacing this seal that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance, Mark. |
You can change it from the bell side, but it requires a special puller and a special drift to reinstall the new seal.

6spd transmission input shaft seal
Hi Lil Bastard,
Thank you for your reply. The seal certainly looks like it can be replaced from the Belhousing side and once I recieve the seal I am certainly going to attempt it. Is there another way that is consider proper that is much more labour intensive? The reason I am asking is a local transmission shop quoted me 6 hour labour to do the job ($576.30) - thats with the transmission already out of the my car and delivered to his shop. I really wish my Bentley manual covered this as I do not like using my Porsche as a gini pig! |
