Motor Up in smoke

Hello all,

Yesterday, my boxster started smoking like crazy in the middle of rush hour traffic. It made no noise just lots of smoke. Today my mechanic tells me that they had to drain the water out of the cylinders to dry it out and get it to turn over at all. Long story short he says its time for a new motor it goes with out saying I am a little ticked off the car only has 75,000!

Has anyone heard of this happening and is it true that the motors for these toys are plug and play. Brake one pop a new one in? Doesn’t anybody rebuild engine any more?

Thanks for the input.

TB

There are other reasons for heavy smoke from the exhaust. Failed AOS comes to mind first. Before throwing another 10-15K at your car for a new motor you may want to get in there for a look, if only to confirm his diagnosis. Even the most experienced tech misses stuff once in a while. It's your dough not his. If coolant is truly gushing from the cylinders it is probably a goner.

Check out this little OOPS!

This could be something smaller, such as a bad head gasket. Before you drop some serious money, get to a Porsche pro mechanic that you trust.

Good luck. :)
