Why are the boxster mufflers so big? Center console's paint is chipping?

1. I'm just wondering why they made them so big. Are they trying to weight the back end of the boxster down to get more traction?

2. Has anyone else had the center console's paint chip? I dont understand why they would paint black plastic the color black.

Good question. The OEM mufflers are extremely heavy. I doubt that they would purposely make it heavier for weight distribution though. They do suppress alot of sound and are made to last forever. I would love to find an exhaust that functions as well as the OEM units at less weight. It seems like less weight equals more resonance which I cannot stand.

My Gemballa exhaust is SLIGHTLY lighter than the OEM but just about the same size. I have ZERO resonance. However, my exhaust is not every loud either...

usually the cars that have an engine in the front of the car, have alllll the pipes run to the end, and then the actual mufflers attached to them...hence no resonance.
in the box, the distance form engine to muffler is much shorter, so the inside of the actual muffler is full or bypasses and passages for the gases to pass by, so weighs more.
hope that helps and makes sense

if the chipping is near your A/C, possibly the condensation from the A/C may have warped the paint into coming off? quick thought but idk if it could be true or not.
