Motor swap options????

Everyone talks about upgrading or supercharging, turbos..... What is the largest motor one could swap into a Box? If I had the money to buy a 997 3.6 twin turbo, could I have it installed, or is there a size limit?

I would rather do a 996 GT3 motor!

Right now, into the 986, the largest displacement that is a pretty straightforward swap is the 3.6L from the 996. I believe there are a couple 986 boxsters out there with the 997 3.8L, but that is a pretty extreme and involved swap. The 987 boxster can get away with the 3.8L from the 997. You could go pretty large...and could always go big bore on a 3.6L and make it a 4.0L or even larger.. the motor itself is the same size... just playing around with the internals to get a bigger displacement

One of the size limitations with either the turbo motor or the GT3 motor is the external oil sump that these motors use. Flipped around for use in a Boxster, the oil sump would be on the left rear of the engine. The wall into our trunk is in the way. A possible solution would b to fabricate a sump similar to the coolant tank on the opposite side and plumb it in. I would absolutely love to see a Boxster with all the GT3 bits, including the motor. THAT would be an amazing automobile!

The only limitation is how much $$ you have to spend.
Unlike what is mentioned below, it is no more complicated to put a 3.8 into a car than a 3.6. And no more complicated to put a 3.6 into a 2002-on car than a 3.4 into the earlier cars. It is when you start crossing the boundaries it gets complicated.

Can the exhaust components from a 3.2 be used on the 3.4? ECU?

I know the question of putting regular 3.2, 3.4 or 3.6 have been answered in the past. I was asking specifically about the turbo motors. Thank you to everyone else who understood my question.
