Clutch replacement
 

Has anyone replaced there clutch in there 986 if so how difficult?
What is the approximant cost for the dealer to replace

I had one done [covered under insurance], it cost 1000.00 including parts.

If that is to steep, then DIY, it is really easy due to the tranny being in the rear, bell housing bolts, pop the linkage and remove the CV bolts and it's almost out, a few other odds and ends [rear tranny bolts and exhaust.]

I have air tools so it's not bad for me, but trying to get the flywheel bolts off without, could be allot off fun :>(

The only decision for you is the rear bumper, to pull or not to pull.

It's like a 914 only harder and bigger LOL :>)

It cost me around $1k too. I got Sachs for around $340 from a website. THe installation was fairly quick, took only 6 hours. Sachs is a very good clutch. It took me a while to get used to it at first, very sensitive.

What did the clutch feel like when it was starting to go? if you can put it into words that is

Alienz, I thought Sachs was the oem clutch provider for porsche?

Adam, it could be I'm not sure. Maybe TP can fill us in.

Is that the serial # for the 986 clutch? Do the 2.7's and 3.2s share the same clutch? So sachs clutches are standard on boxsters?

The only Boxster that uses a different clutch is the Boxster S [996 clutch], and the converted Boxster to 3.4 which also uses the 996 clutch.

Sachs is what I am to understand to be stock, but why stay stock if you can get better.
