Cold Air Intake Kits
I just bought a 2004 Boxster S and I am exploring the possibility of installing an aftermarket cold air intake system. Can anyone give me some advice both positive and negative? Spottersl

I have a 2000 boxster and i made mine myself. It was wayyy more complicated than it needed to be, I spent $40 on mine vs. $380 or so for the EVO intake. The hardest part was getting the old one out...its just too big and i had to cut it into several peices. I simply cut the stock intake tube behind the factory airbox and used a peice coupler to clamp on a KN airfilter. Performance and sound was noticable but nothing crazy...If you do it like mine than you will have to clean your airfilter every couple of months or you WILL notice performance drop. Good luck! |
Hey Kyle,
Do you have a pic? Thanks! |
getting the old one out is definitely the hardest part.
the sound definitely improves, but performance im not sure. definitely worth the money for sound, especially past 5k, its unbeliveable |
Sorry I dont have any pictures of it, but there are plenty of step by step threads on how to do it. They helped me alot!

If you want the sound, this's the kit that'll give you that. But power wise, expect slight losses in torque in low to mid rpms. You'll gain top end but it's after 6.5k rpm. Plus it screwed up my MAF. I've since replaced it with the original stock air box with stock paper filter. An option that available for those who cut up their stock box in the process of removing it. So don't do that :) |
o yeah, my MAF got screwed up as well

I have had a intake for 4 years and have never had trouble with the MAF.
Plus they sound AWESOME!!! |
Cold Air Intake
Happy New Year All,
Just wanted to thank all of you who responded and to let you know that I ordered the EVO Cold Air Intake Kit yesterday and will have same installed as soon as it arrives. Regards, Steve Potter P.S. As soon as I can figure out how to do it, I will post pictures of my '04 Triple Black Boxster S Beauty. |

That's a great lookin' car!
As far as people's MAF's getting screwy, 99.9% of the time it's because they're using a K&N style filter (reusable by cleaning and oiling) and over-oiling the filter when they recharge it. This causes the excess oil to get sucked down the intake and foul up the MAF. If you just lightly oil the filter (it doesn't need much at all to work properly), then you shouldn't run into any problems. |
Somebody is familiar with Water Ethanol injection !!

I have to admit black is the best looking color when clean. I think it would look sharp if you had the rollbars painted black to match the car.

I will agree that this is most likely the case. Had the same issue with my s4 which ceased once i switched to a dry filter. |
I went with the TTP intake and agree with all that the aftermarket intakes sound great. Dont know if there was any increase in HP as I did not do a dyno run with only a change in intake. Even though it sounds faster, I suspect there was little or no change in performance with the mod. One thing that does really impress me is how quickly the oiled air filter gets black with brake dust from the front brakes. I would guess that only 500 miles or so, a cleaned, freshly oiled filter is pretty black. I cannt imagine that is just from the road, so I figure if must be from the brakes. Has anyone else checked their oil-based air filters after 500 miles or so?
Ed  |
