What is de-snorkling?!

SOrry for my ignorance, maybe its the slight difference in our languages UK English and US English, but I am confused as to exactly what you guys mean by de-snorkling.

Is it simply to remove the air filter from the front air intake - im guessing?

Help guys, it sounds like the thing to do! I want a better sound.

Do a search with the word, "desnork", and you'll find a lot of posts about it. It is basically removing the plastic snorkle tube that feeds air to the intake. It is located in the driver's side intake vent housing in the US cars, and on the Passenger side intake housing for your UK based cars. After removing this tube, you will have a more pronounced intake growl when at speed and on the throttle.

Correct- the desnork mod is great on the pre-2005 models (ie. all 986 cars). For 987 (2005+), there is a mod to remove the restrictor plate for more airflow. Reports are that removing the snork for these cars yields a drastic reduction of mpg.

Mod for 987 cars (although they call it a desnork, they actually just remove the restrictor plate): http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/showproduct.php?product=29&cat=4&limit=views&date= 1161151595

Correct me if I am wrong but based on what I saw in the link, it appears that the restrictor plate and the snorkle is removed on the 987s. Anyone here do it yet?

In this pic, it looks like the snork is still in place behind the mesh. I may be wrong though. Regardless, there are reports that you get a significant drop in mpg if you remove the snork on the 987.

I stand (actually I am sitting) corrected! Maybe they took it out and put it back before the job was completed. Regardless, when mine gets here I plan to remove just the restrictor plate.
