Racer's Tape

Has anyone used racer's tape to protect the wheel arches? I've been autocrossing my 986 at (unfortunately) less than ideal lots and am worried about chips, scratches, etc...
Will the tape damage the paint when I remove it after events?
thanks

If you leave it on for 2-3 days it leaves 'duct tape' type goo behind. If you only use it for a day, no goo.

I did have racer's tape pull some loose paint off the roll hoops once. The paint on the wheel arches should be more securely affixed to the car. And again, this was after leaving on the tape for several days (it was padding under the BK rollbar extension.)

Find some 3M "stoneguard" or rockguard. The racers call it helicopter tape. Before 3M decided they should sell it for cars.. it was used for the leading edge of helicopter rotor blades to keep them from being hammered with debris. It is somewhat difficult to deal with but isnt noticeable from 5 feet away when installed.

It may also be called "clearguard" in your area.

Use the 3M blue painter's tape. It comes off very easy with no residue and is quite tough (especially with a couple of layers).

Yes. The blue tape works well also... it just doesnt stick quite as well as the other stuff. They key with the Clearguard stuff is that you can leave it on the car without looking like a dork running around on the street..LOL
