986 + tire retread = :(
I was out driving this morning when all of a sudden in front of me was a piece of tire retread. I swerved as fast as possible but just barley caught it with my front passenger side tire, it kicked the retread up and took a nice gouge out of the side of my car. It is down in the side skirt under the door where there is the stone/chip protection. The scrape is about 6 inches long and a good 1/8 inch deep in the middle.
Any thoughts on a good way to fix/mask this? I was thinking about maybe just filling it in with a black Sharpie marker. Any better ideas? My car is Basalt Black metallic BTW so just coloring it black is probably going to be noticeable if you look for it. This part of the car appears to be plastic. Are there going to be any future problems I need to worry about? Thanks. http://filebox.vt.edu/users/shanley/pics/P1010855.JPG http://filebox.vt.edu/users/shanley/pics/P1010856.JPG http://filebox.vt.edu/users/shanley/pics/P1010857.JPG |
Ouch. Sorry to see that. Cheap trucking companies/haulers like to use the cheap re-tread tires... they blow apart constantly. I personally would find a local body shop who is "into" Porsches (this means find a local racer or Autox'er who runs a body shop and attends PCA events) They normally sponsor your local PCA magazine, have them quote you on a repair. Do it right. It appears you have a nice car... keep it that way.

In California CAL Trans is responsible for the highway's. You can make a claim with them for damage sustained on the highway's.
I do not know about your state, but it's worth a look. It maybe a $200.00-300.00 repair, probably have to shoot the whole door. Actually you may consider skirts, It may cover the area, and you will have a cooler look. Make lemons into lemonade. Scott |
