Good dealer repair/servicing shop in San Frnascisco Bay Area

I just bought a Boxster 2003 from a private party in LA and I live in Santa Clara (San Franscisco Bay Area). I wanted some recomendations regarding a good and reliable Porsche dealer here I can go to for regular servicing and maintainence.

I also heard a slight squeaking sound when I braked a little hard today. Any suggestions? Again, any good dealer I can go to for repairs - it is still under factory warrenty.

Your slight squeaking can be a as little as a little brake dust on the caliper.

Temperature changes i.e. dry weather will make these conditions more pronounced.

Don't worry right away, but since you just bought it, many people here can walk you through a brake check if you want to learn on your own.

Trygve probably has more seat time in a Boxster at the track than anyone else I know that owns a Boxster.. he has the brake stuff nailed down. I *think* he has been running the car with our local PCA GGR region time trial series for at least 6 if not 7 years. He also attends a lot of out open track rental days (rent a track for 8 hours and drive until you puke). Cool guy. Wealth of knowledge.

I use Stevens Creek Porsche because I know the people there and Peter Smith puts on tech sessions for us. Some people use Claridges.

I did checked with the local Porsche dealer (Stevens Creek Porsche) and was told that it was due to brakes caliper dusts. He washed the brack pads and the sound stopped.

Howvere, the next day, the brake screeching/squeaking returned. The dealer told me that it is normal - porsche brake calipers get dust between the brake pads while normal driving and will makke sound. The only solution seems to be to wash them everyday. He also told me that the brakes of lightly used street driven boxsters tend to glaze and this can also cause squeking. He told me practically to live with it.

I am new to the world of porsche so my question is - is what the dealer telling me true? If so, what can I do to prevent the annoying sound short of washing them brakes everyday? Or is the dealer fibbing me to avoid correcting some genuine problem (the car is under warrenty).

Please tell me what to do

Bottom line: Porsche installs JUNK pads from the factory. They wear out much quicker than the replacement pads and make noise. You'll have to change the pads if you want the noise to go away.

Good porsche street brake pads squeal - track pads squeal a lot - your description sounds normal to me.

If you like, think of the noise as your car yelling "look at me" , and pity the fool who doesn't have beefy Brembo brakes that show off.
