Poll - Bad MAF probably caused by oil based air filter
This is a poll to find out see if
Choice A Bought the oil based filter(pre-oiled from the manufacturer),installed the filter and had to replace the MAF before the scheduled cleaning/replacement period for the filter Choice B Had your filter for awhile, cleaned it,then had issues with your MAF or Choice C Haven't had an issue to date with their oil based filter |
Bump. I know I'm not the only person has had an aftermarket air filter on their Boxster.

You should add another choice "Bad MAF PROBABLY from oiled filter"
|
i installed EVOMS intake, and soon after bad MAF. dont know if its from that or not, but that was the only mod to the engine.
got new MAF, works fine now |
My vote on choice B made the poll a 3-way :D tie with 1 for each choice lol

I've had a BMC cotton replacement style filter on there now for about 3 yrs with no problems. I read somewhere where Porsche redesigned the MAF sensor to be more resistent to contamination and CEL's on the later 986 models. Perhaps that is why I've been lucky regarding this issue.

I installed a TTP cold-air intake that uses an oil filter, not long after that the MAF needed replacing, but I think the MAF I had was the original for my 2000 Boxster.
So, maybe it was the oil and maybe it was the process of installing the intake, or maybe it was just old. BTW, its been close to 20K miles on the MAF I put in and it seems to be working fine. I have been playing with CEL error codes, but so far they seem to say the MAF is OK. Ed  |
