Intermittent Starter Problem 1997 986 Boxter

Sometimes when starting Boxter (approx once every 20 times) on turning key there is a "split second" delay before it starts. This has happened about 4 times in past 3 months. Has any one else had this problem Can any one give any guidance? .......before it won't start at all !!!!

Sounds like the ignition switch is starting to fail. It's a cheap part and easy to replace.

Thanks for that. Have you had a similar problem. What is involved in replacing it?

The stock ignition switch on the Box and 911 is junk. Fortunately, it is a cheap fix.

I had a similar problem, changed the ignition switch (under warranty) and it still wouldnt start at times. I finally figured it out....it was the clutch switch that wasnt fully engaged because the floor mat slid up too far. When I pushed the clutch peddle in to start the car, the mat cut short the full range of motion needed to activate the switch, and it wouldnt start.
