Cleaning Throttle Body
Hey guys, I've noticed that my idle sometimes fluctuates, and from what I've learned here, it could be that my throttle body needs a nice cleaning. (eGas car). I'm going to take the TB off to do a thorough front/back cleansing. So my question is, do the throttle bodies on the 986 use a gasket?
(Most of my previous cars used gaskets from the throttle body to the Intake manifold, and would require either replacing the gasket each time you took it off, or reusing a gasket/using gasket maker filling.) From the posts I've read so far about cleaning the 986 TB, no one has mentioned a gasket... Can anyone chime in on this? And if it doesn't use a gasket, what steps can be used to prevent any sort of air leak upon reinstalling the TB? and does anyone know what is the proper Torque spec for the TB bolts? Thanks in advance! |

Done
Hi Guys,
Cleaned the throttle body today & fixed my hunting at idel problem. Was very easy and took me a total of about an hour all up. I took a few pics to show how it's done if anyone is interested. I understand it is a very common problem with our cars although even my specialist Porsche mechanic thought it was something more serious like a vacume leak or soemething. Anyway she now idles at about 700rpm rock solid after a few minutes after start up. I'll post a few pics & a brief guide in the DIY Section |

Thanks for the responses guys! I just picked up some CRC throttle body cleaner and some CRC MAF cleaner as well. I'll be cleaning out the TB and MAF hopefully this or next weekend.
