Idle and backfire problem

I'm new to this forum, but I think I'm going to like it from what I've red.

Here is my problem : I have a 97 Boxter that has an idle and backfire problem.

When the MAF was disconnected, the engine was ok. So, the MAF has been change.
For 100 miles(160km), it ran fine. Then when It reapeared. Don't know if it's constant or intermittent...

I've red that it could be the oil separator... but don't know what it is.

I'd like to have your opinions, it would be appreciated.

Are you getting a Check Engine Light (CEL) after the the symptoms reappeared?

Get the codes checked and report back here with them.... it will help narrow things down.

Thanks for the advice

Update.

The check engine light wasn't working so I changed it because the codes wouldn't appeared without it.

Code P1691 : Check Engine Malfunction Indication Light (MIL) - Open Circuit
---> We just changed the light and it's ok now.

Code pending P0102 : Mass Air Flow Sensor - Below Lower Limit
---> The MAF sensor has been changed... could it be something related to the MAF that brings this code ? What does it mean : the sensor is not working properly or the sensor detects something is wrong ?

I erased the codes to see if they would come back when I start the engine. Nothing happened and the it ran really fine ! Seems like an intermittent problem...

Any clues on what the problem is ? Oil separater ?

Well since its pending it could be that a peice of debri hit the maf and fell off later, OR the maf is bad but sometimes works and sometimes doesnt, WHen my MAF went out for the first time, i had 1 backfire and a MAF code. Replaced the MAF and all was good again. Your problem might come back.
