straight pipes exhaust cutout for 2000 S
Does anyone know if it is possible to install an exhaust cutout (either manually controlled via toggle switch or ideally electronically controlled to switch at a certain rpm).
I am looking for the best of both worlds, quiet when you want it (stock exhaust) or loud when you want it (straight pipes). I searched the forum and saw one good video of straight pipes but no mention of a cutout. Is such a thing possible on the boxster? (I've seen them on other cars). Also I like the vw r32 exhaust and I believe ferraris and some lambos have a 2 stage exhaust? Has anyone seen a 2 stage type for the boxster (not like fabspeed or other where it is louder all the time). Thanks! Mike |
i have 2 manually operated ones, well they are levers that you either open or close, or find a sweet spot somewhere in between.

I have exactly what your asking about, electronic exhaust cutouts. Yes, it can be done.

The sound on both those cars is awesome. I love the adjustablility of the electric valves and that is exactly what I am looking for. I'm guessing there is probably some kind of pressure switch or other that can be used to open up the valves at a certain rpm, or at least "when you really get on it".
I have used $30 adjustable pressure switches to control when a watermister would squirt water on the outside of a turbo intercooler on saabs and it works great once you get it dialed in where you want it (switch was on turbo vacuum line and turned on at a certain psi of boost which was adjustable). There must be something similar that could be done here (maybe just have it in a vacuum line?). Does the valve have "presets" such as 1/4, 1/8 etc. or do you just judge that yourself? Ideally the valves could be preset at 1/4 for example and then the pressure switch would kick it on at 4000 rpm or whatever you preferred. That would be sweet! I skimmed the post you referred to and am really looking forward to reading it in detail! Mike |
Its fully adjustable. I think I counted 24 quick taps of the switch from full open to full closed so you could do it that way. I just count 4 seconds till its open all the way.

Performance Difference?
Is the much of a performance difference or is it more just the sound?

its def performance mod, as it eliminates the restrictive exhaust.
the only diff is that mine cost me like not even 40 bux, and boggtown's were close to 300 i would assume, but he does have the advantage of opening and closing from inside the cabin. i found it that i only use them at the autoX, and sometimes around the town when i feel the urge hehehe |
