Brake light issues?

I purchased the same rear light setup as conradtan and seem to have a few issues.

1) The tail light covers I bought (smoked ones, look awesome!) didn't have a hole for the outermost light bulb. We removed the bulb to install and now the brake lights are acting funny. Do you think removing the outermost bulbs are messing something up? The lights are acting funny in that at first they worked, then only one worked, then the other worked and finally neither works? Help?
2) The third brake light from Vivid didn't work at all on my car. I thought I remembered reading somewhere about switching the wires? The ironic part of this is when we installed the same brake light on djomlas's car it worked just fine. What the heck?

Well gosh golly gee whiz... maybe you should check the bulbs? I dunno Wilbur, that seems a lil' stupid seeing that they worked before...

What do you know, I had a burnt out bulb and the other wasn't seated properly... And when I switched the wires for the 3rd brake light it worked just fine... I feel dum...

But my lights work!!!
