Engine noise on '05 987
Hello all,
Currently experiencing a weird noise from the engine, as confirmed by the dealership maintenance people, on an 05 987. When at 3050 rpms a very distinctive wah-wah wah noise is present. This occurs in all gears but its most prominent in 4th, 5th and 6th. The car has been at the dealership since May 7 and they cannot make the noise disappear. The latest word today from Porsche is that I'll just have to live with it. Know anyone that looking for an 05 Boxster? |
Live with it? If the car is under warranty, the issue needs to escalate to the area rep. Demand it.
Now if it's not under warranty, that's a different story altogether. If it really bothers you or you discover it's gonna be a huge repair bill, I'd put the car in an auction and be done with it. |
Don't accept their answer. Take it to Porsche HQ.

There is a oil pressure relief valve thats been knowning to cause a noise at certain rpm's..... maybe worth looking into.

Correct, the TSB# is 1726 Control Piston in oil pump. |
Repeted "wah-wah-wah" noises many times turn out to be bearings... of one sort or another. I know that this is not of much help to you but bearings don't usually get better with time. Go above the dealership to get help.
