central locking erratic and window drop problem

Hi

I have a '97 model 2.5 left hand drive boxster manual with alarm.

Recently I noticed that the central locking would operate 3 complete phases (of on / off) when entering the car and today actually twice whilst driving. The red light on the central locking switch is actiavted.

Also, and I think related, the drivers door window does not drop when operating either inside or outside door releases.

This started while I had the hard top in place, but today thinking that it might be the roof microswitch, I took it off and now only have the cabriolet but the problem persists.

The passenger door release microswitches operate the passenger window drop fine.

I am thinking either a faulty central locking switch somewhere (console?) or one of the door microswitches.

Any ideas before I fork out?

Cheers
Mat

Many have reported erratic behavior from various electrical systems throughout the car when the ignition switch goes bad. Apparently it does a lot more than start the car. Its only $15-40 depending on where you buy it and is a simple DIY fix. You may want to start there, and if that doesn't fix it, at least you can rule it out now, and you'll have a new ignition switch that may head off other potential problems.

Is there excessive play when your key is inserted in the ignition? Is it sometimes stubburn to trun? It may be worth a shot. I'm sure others will chime in too.

Good luck and report back.

If we are talking about the barrel then yes, the key waggles around like a turd in a piss pot - to use the vernacular. It always has.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see what I can do.
