Seat Belt Light

: I have a 98 Boxter and the seat belt light never turns off. Even when I have the seat belt on or both seat belts are buckled.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

The sensor inside it might be dirty. Take some contact cleaner (used for computer parts) and squirt it real good into the hole in the receptacle and let it dry. Then see if this helps.

Seat belt receptacles aren't terribly expensive and you can replace them easily. You may want to try this next. Just remember to disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery to start working or you'll get an airbag warning light as well.

Didn't work

I tried the contact cleaner but it didn't work. The driver's eat that is in the car now is from a 1999 while the car is a 1998. Could the recepticals for the 99 be different than the 98? I'm going to try to find the old seat and see if I can get the receptical off it and switch them.

Any other ideas?

Are you sure it's the seatbelt light and not the airbag light? If seats are changed out without first disconnecting the battery, the airbag light will be set off, at which point the light must be disable by someone with a PST2 (like the dealer) or the Durametric software.

It is definately the seatbelt light. I've had the airbag light problem you describe before and had to go tot he stealer to get it turned off. Thanks for asking
