hey all. i am looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on my 97 2.5. are 19s out of the question or should i stick with 18s. i have had my car for 2 weeks and would like to keep the stock wheels and tires for resale (17s). the car was purchased with 8,874 miles and looks new. also any ideas for performance???? thanks al

19s out of the question??? Nope... Just depends on who you ask...
Do a search for threads regarding 18 and 19 inch wheels on '97s. You'll find a lot of information about possible rear suspension failure and the Porsche re-design. There's also a discussion of the same topic on Rennlist. 235-35-19 front on 19x8s and 275-30-19 rear on 19x9.5s. No spacers... http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/DSC00188.jpg |
those wheels look similar to the ones i want. looks awesome. my car is red and i want black rims with polished edge. where did you buy them from? how much if you dont mind me asking. thanks al
also have choice of 18 inch carrera style light weight rims???? any performance diff with 19 inch wheels and tires??????? |
I got them mail order from Wheel Dynamics in California. The owner's name is Carlos and he's a great guy. They are made by TSW and they come in black with a polished lip. They were right around $2,000 with the tires. They were really reasonable and I'm very happy with them.

i believe thats where i am looking. i dont drive the car hard but dont want to do anything that might compromise the vehicle. i have not found it to be lacking terribly in performance but the thought of rms problems or complete engine failure is a concern

Do some research first. Certain year cars can't have wheels greater than 18" without handling problems. Not enough tire air cushion so the ride is so harsh that if the suspension doesn't have the right bushings it will get FUBAR. They had problems with some 911 coupes where the harshness of the ride even with 18" wheels actually caused the rear windows to pop out after a while.

kool thanks for your help

Give Wheel Dynamics a call, they will know what you can or can't do. They know Porsche wheels and fitment very well.
Carlos is great, and they have very good pricing. |
