996 twin turbo engine swap??
Hi,
Not that I am going to do it, but all of this talk of engine swapping got me thinking. If you where going to go through the trouble, why not put a twin turbo in the back? Could it be done? James |
Would not fit
The turbo and GT3 engines are completely different than our engines, different mounts and dimensions. If you saw a picture of a turbo motor you would understand. The amount of work to make it fit would be rediculous, although very cool.

hmmmm, GT3 engines are NA and made for narrow body cars... whats the deal with those?
|
Someone overseas fit a GT3 engine in a 986,can't find the link to the website anywhere though.

Just because the GT3 is NA does not mean it shares ANYTHING in common with our engines, or the powerplants in the "lesser" 996s. They are completely different cases and are far from a bolt in proposition.
Same holds true for a TT motor. I'm sure it COULD be done, but I cant even begin to imagine the amount of work. Patrick |

I've read somewhere the intake manifold won't fit under the boxster top as well. |
They have to make new engine mounts even for a 3.4L swap. And new fuel runners and a few other things.. A tt would be a big deal because you need to have a place to mount the intercooler (trunk?). It's not that big of deal tho just because the engine is not the same size, at least relative to a 3.4 or 3.6 swap.

I believe their dry slump lubrication systems are one of the biggest headaches for the swap
