Motor Oil for 1997 Boxster
Can anyone tell me what motor oil I should use for a 1997 Boxster?
|
It's dependant really on the average temperatures your car is going to see.
You can read more about the different weights and such here: http://www.986faq.com/2-0/default.asp#011 |
Hey, newby to this BB, I was told 0-40 Mobil one is the way to go. Apparently the lubricant also has to do with the proper function of the variocam, so selection is important...

Your car was originally shipped with M1 15W-50.
You can also use M1 0W-40 are its equiv. |
Bruce, I read in an Excellence post that the variocam is effected by the oil choice, do you know if that is true?

I have heard that and it is conceivable. I don't think any quality synthetic that meets Porsche spec will be an issue. One thing to note is that the current M1 15W-50 is NOT the same formula that was specd out in 1997. The current version is rumored to be a "make believe syn" rather than a PAO syn. When all is said and done, I would go with the M1 0W-40, which is apparently still a PAO syn. Safe vs sorry. Hope that helps. :) |
