New stereo head unit - alarm question
 

Just had an Alpine head unit installed in my '02S and getting the warning sound from the alarm system when I lock up the car. Have checked all of the doors, filler door, armrest, etc. and all are working properly so I have not "left something open". Is something wired incorrectly with the new headunit or will I just learn to live with the chirp when I lock up? Something I can fix on my own or get the dealer to fix?

there is an alarm wire that connects to the factory radio casing that is causing this. What you want to do is remove the radio console. Pop out the two switch panels (where the cigarette lighter and door lock switches are) there are then 4 torx screws along the corners, remove those) then depending how the installer installed your alpine the should be 2 more torx next to the radio that connects to the metal radio bracket. Once those are removed you should be able to pull it out slowly, you only need to pull it out enough to see on the driver side of the radio, there is a (brown or black wire) that has a female plug that plugs in the side of the radio (it does not actually plug into the radio but more on to the mounting plate/plastic piece) if this wire was cut or not plugged in then this will make your alrm think that someone ripped you radio out and causing the false trigger. If a stereo shop did this install for you, you may want to bring it back and have them fix it. FYI i installed an alpine deck in my car and had no alarm issues. good luck

We just stick a piece of tape on the side of the radio in the alarm contact area.

When I had an aftermarket radio i just unplugged the cable that was plugged into the casing for the factory radio. Its a single brown cable on the left side. Take a flaslight to the Din opening and you cant miss it. Pull out the cable and just tuck it inside and WaLa no more churping

5 minutes and all fixed. At first they had just grounded the wire - after cutting it and taping it up no more chirp. Thanks again!

Hey Guys. I hav'nt posted in years but still check this sight a lot for info.

Anyway, I just wanted to say +1 to this post. I'm in the process of swapping out my head unit and I found two sets of directions (1 from Pelican Parts and 1 from install kit instructions) clearly stating that the wire should be grounded. Yea, that totally makes the horn go off. After finding this posted I just capped the wire and all is well.
