LHD headlights in a RHD car?!?!?!!
I have a suspicion my new Clear headlamps ( which havent been professionally adjusted yet) are for a LHD car as it is throwing the beams off to the right ( we drive on the right hand side ) and no the left!
Can the headlamp adjusters swing all the way over to the other side or do I have the wrong parabolic whatchamacallits inside? I still have my amber RHD headlamps, can I dismanlte both sets and put the right reflectors in if this is the case? I am in quite a pickle here. |
Well, I know they do have some lateral adjustment, but I dont know if Porsche simply makes one set of headleads, and adjusts for LHD or RHD or if they make (more likely) two different versions and its impossible to get LHD headlights adjusted properly for a RHD car.
Anyone else know for sure? Patrick |
I am on some UK Porker boards and this comes up once in a while. There are headlights for a LHD and headlights for a RHD if you look at the parts list. There is no adjustment to convert one to the other. The internal lense is different, and I do not know how you could get it out without destroying the light.
There is a yellow sticker with a part number. Starts with 986 if they came from a Boxster and 996 if they came from a 996. If you get the part numbers I might be able to look them up. |
My gut instinct also tells me that there are definite differences between LHD and RHD lights that can't be changed by adjusting them.
I used to have an RHD Golf GTI Mk II (one of the first MKIIs from 1984 - awesome car) and I had to replace the whole headlamp fitting. Same goes for my Dad's old Volvos. Thank god the 986 headlamp units are plug and play. |
