Horn honking on its own
When I get on the brakes hard or take a turn fast the horn will honk on the car, has anyone had this problem with there Box?
I would just like to pull the fuse, is it located by the wing switch? Thanks, Automon |
Sounds like you have a loose contact in the horn and when you turn it makes contact and honks. The fuse should be in the kick panel next to switch.

Do you have any ideas on how to fix this problem should i pull the whell and look for a bare wire?
Thanks, Automon |
On the 4 spoke wheels these bushings become worn.

so when the bushing become worn it shorts out under a heavy load? are they hard to replace? how do i get access?
Thanks for all your help Automon |
Shorts out is a good word, but all it is really doing is closing the circuit for the horn. That is why is an insulated bushing/gromet on each of the 4 bolts for the horn plate. Common complaint on old 4 spoke wheels.
Porsche does not sell just the bushing. You have to buy the entire plate. Disconnect the battery and remove the air bag. 4 bolts for the plate. One guy sliced a thin section of garden hose and used that as an insulator. You might also find something in the plumbing department. http://img15.photobucket.com/albums/...orn_frame1.jpg |
I hope this helps:

Just paid about $250 to replace the backing plate with new improved bushings on my 99 Box. Same thing- fuses kept blowing and the horns on continuously. They replaced to horns while they were at it.

My local dealer replaced my horn actuator plate (found beneath the airbag on my 4 spoke steering wheel) just last week for $198.00 including parts and labor.
Man, it was bad to have that go out within a week of ownership. Here I am, tooling around in my dream car and I downshift hard while braking to avoid rear ending a car in front of me and the horn goes off. The guy in front of me taught me some sign language and I know he was thinking "rich $#@!% driving the Porsche doesn't want to wait in traffic like the rest of us!" I didn't care how much it cost, I just had to get it fixed before I got a baseball bat in the windshield from a ticked off driver. Hey, this is Houston. Betcha didn't know that 2 out of every 5 drivers carry a loaded weapon with them in their cars! Tell me, what other little surprises can I expect from owning my 97 boxster that might get me shot or beat up? :) |
