5.7 Earthquake at my house!

Anyone from the greater Salt Lake City area felt the earthquake this morning. The epicenter was about 2 miles from my home.

Now, I've been in California earthquakes before, so I don't consider myself the "un-initiated" here. (maybe "under-initiated, though, hahaha)

But this one was particularly violent. It wasn't the "rocking and rolling" that I've always experienced in the past. This was a very violent shaking.... like, "put the house in a salt shaker" violent. It lasted a lifetime.... but it started while I was on the ....er .... um.... well I was indisposed. and it was LOUD. REALLY LOUD. And my first reaction? Yeah, I was angry. I was ready to kick somebody's a$$. Pissed me off somethin' fierce.

If I could figure-out how to upload a video, I've got the security camera footage....

Glad you are okay! Any damage to your property?

Wow, hope you are ok. Not what anyone needs any time, and especially now with everything else going on, that's for sure!

Wow, Maytag. I hope you and everyone's OK and hopefully little or no property damage. Just out of curiosity, whose a$$ were you ready to kick? I ask because I've never experienced an earthquake, or any major natural disaster for that matter, so I don't know what my first reaction would be, except maybe $hit my pants!

Thanks y'all. No damage to speak of, just stuff tipping over, falling off shelves, etc. Some minor broken-ware. Power was out to 32k residents for most of the day. I've been running around the neighborhood helping the widows and elderly clean up and get back in order, so I think I've seen most of it. There are neighborhoods harder hit than mine, but very few were damaged extensively. We build for "the big one" around here. We don't get many quakes, but we're all aware we live on an ancient fault line.

Perhaps the most significant damage from this: the golden angel atop the iconic mormon temple in downtown salt lake city lost his trumpet. That's the trumpet that's supposed to sound "the second coming"... . So.... that all feels a little apocalyptic, hahahaha.

Piper, I was actually sitting ON THE CAN when it started. So you're reaction would've been fine. Hehe

I was headed outside to smack down whoever just drove their truck into my house.
Seriously though, my first reaction was that the giant gang-banger who I pissed off 10 days ago was back for his revenge that he told me was coming. But that's a whole DIFFERENT story......

You really need to watch what you eat!

Seriously, glad you're OK and safe.

Glad to hear you're OK, for I can't be expected to run this place on my own. ;)

I live ON the fault line out here and have become so accustomed to earthquakes I just sit through them and, when they're over... start inspecting for cracks on the internal and external walls, and the ceiling. Business as usual.

Now... what caught my attention in one of your comments was where you were helping the "elderly". Dude! LOL. You are the elderly! You're in my club! ;)

Soon you'll share with us the story about the guy's ass almost you kicked. I'm waiting...

Cheers!
