Uh oh. Got a ride in a '14 Stingray...

Last week I had the pleasure of riding in a 2014 base Corvette Stingray with the adaptive suspension package and the base trim level.

I just about sucked the leather upholstery off the seat base when he put his foot in it from a dead stop in Track mode. The exhaust was glorious and made the visceral acceleration even more exciting. And this was the base motor, not the 600 hp turbocharged motor.

The Stingray also handled well around corners in Sport and Track modes and when it was in standard mode the ride was comfortable. I was not able to enjoy riding in or driving the car on a track so I can't compare it to my Boxster, but I have done a ride along in an older Corvette at the track and was impressed.

The owner had driven the Stingray about 5 hours the day before coming from his home in central Louisiana and said he put it in Economy mode and got 30 miles per gallon as well! 30 mpg from a big V8!!!

My Pcar days may be numbered, especially if I relocate to rural NC where Porsche dealerships and repair shops are 2 hours away in any direction and Chevy dealerships are everywhere.

M'eh.....engine's in the wrong place, too much plastic inside, aren't near as pretty as a Porsche and the build quality just isn't there.

I will grant you, they go like stink! But again - the Boxster never was/is the fastest car out there.

I've got an associate out in the country who owns 5 or 6 that he has collected through the years, loves them to pieces, but is very open that they aren't the most durable. Parts are cheap though.

Don't know how you put up with the Box in Houston so long. Hot, humid, Straight roads, The land of the Custom 4wd. Corvette would have been a much better fit.
But NOW you're moving to rural NC...........twisty roads beckon.

Scalpel and Sledgehammer

I have read the 2 being compared like the title in the past however maybe Chevy put an edge on one end of the hammer as of late?

I came from a '14 stingray and for a while it sat beside the 2001 Boxster S in the garage. Its gone, the boxster is not --- that should tell you all you need to know.

I'll go back to a vette someday, I've had 4. But for now the boxster is a good fit.

Jed, what soured or bored you on the stingray?

Problem is that I won't be moving to NC anytime soon. Might be 5+ years and I'm getting pushback from the wife on the move. Ugh.

I live in Cary, NC (outside RDU) and have a Porsche dealership less than 15 mins away.

I'm fairly certain that the minimum age requirement for Corvette ownership is 65 :D

On top of that, you'll have to tell people that you own a Corvette.

I already have a perfectly functioning penis. Getting a Corvette might imply to some people that I am compensating.

You guys can make jokes about Corvettes all you want, but there are just as many jokes about Porsche drivers.

Belittling Corvettes seems really petty, especially since they are such a performance bargain.

Thanks! I think I will. Here is an oldie but a goodie. "What is the difference between a porcupine and a Corvette? A porcupine has the pricks on the outside"

:)

The first time I heard that joke, it was a Porsche driver, not a Corvette driver.

Wait a minute, I think you meant BMW.

The 60's corvettes had curves like a 986, but now its gone star wars angular.
Don't let the dark side consume you.
