New Member - 1st time 986 owner from OC, CA

Hi Folks - new member and owner of a ‘99 Boxster. Prior to purchasing the Boxster, I’ve owned BMW’s for most of my adult life, ‘02 BMW 325i manual, ‘03 BMW 530i auto and most recently ‘02 530i manual (recently totaled due to rear end impact). I love BMW’s and still do but couldn’t find any available manual e39 sedans on Craiglist. I’m a manual gearbox shifter enthusiast so I had to get a car with a manual. I came across a few Boxster’s for sale and decided to live life and use the insurance check to buy a ‘99 Boxster base manual with sport pack with 63k miles in San Diego CA. The former owner owns 3 other Porsches and the Boxster was the sacrificial lamb. PPI showed a well sorted car with all maintenance records, original sticker and manual.

After almost 3 months of owning her, I’ve done an oil/filter change using 5w40 Liqui Moly Molygen New Generation oil and filter and cleaned the front radiators to rid of the leaves and trash collected. I just purchased a new convertible top from AutoTopsDirect as the rear window is cracked and plan to swap it out myself this week.

I live in Orange County CA and long drives I’ve done so far with her is to Julian, Salton Sea, Palm Springs, Angeles National Forest and Big Bear. The car handles like a champ throughout all my drives especially on the twisties.

Future plans is to keep the car for a year or so. We will see how long I can convince my wife given I have 2 kids .. I do plan to fix a few minor body dings and purchase an RTS as I do enjoy cycling, mountain biking and skiing so hope to score one this year.

Look forward to more 986 Boxster adventures!
