I've received a lot of info on this forum and many thanks. I have a 2000 boxster 79k miles that needs a lot of TLC. I've replaced motor mount, convertible top transmission gears and top at some point etc. Both drive and passenger windows do nothing. I connected a hot wire to the window switch to check motors and they are both OK. With a test light I do not have a hot wire at the window switch plug should I and if so what does this connect to.

Keep up the good fight. I’ve only had mine for a week and a half and am in love. The only thing lacking is some power, and that can be fixed with several options of larger motor.

The wire harness from the door has a large connector at the door hinge. I have seen some that are loose, one that had a couple broken wires, and I have heard of some people that had corrosion on the connectors.
Jamesp has some great pictures showing the door wire harness connector here: http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/58553-adding-door-speakers-wiring-part1.html I don't have my wiring diagrams handy, but I can probably track down the door switch connections tomorrow if you are still looking. Check fuses yet? |

Looking over the wiring diagram, it looks like power for the window motor is supplied through fuse D1. From there it goes to the door harness(s) to an electronic module in the window motor.
The power for control through the window switches is on the middle connector of the three. It looks like that voltage is sourced through the relay for the convertible top. I have power on that middle connector with the key on or off. *This information is free and may be completely wrong (at no additional charge). |
No the windows do not drop down. I see what I can do about the immobilizer. I read were some have found the problem with the convertible top relay or the ignition switch. Thanks

Here's a schematic for the top relay of a 2000 model. You can click on it if you want to see it larger or download it.. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e69abaf3_h.jpg Here's a picture from a tech article about an upgraded top relay that shows a good picture of the relay location (red arrow). https://cdn4.pelicanparts.com/techar...small/Pic1.jpg |
