Boxster Exhaust Suggestions

Hello Forum! I am a relatively new 986 owner. I bought a '98 Boxster last year. I got it for a song, but it has issues. I have had a lot of exhaust issues with what seems to be a cheap, no-name aftermarket exhaust. Not to mention the garden spigots that the previous owner welded in place to dump the exhaust.

I'm looking for suggestions on a cat-back exhaust system. Fabspeed seems to be popular. I don't want to cheap out and regret it, but I also would rather not pay the same price for the new exhaust that I paid for the car.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1593036744.jpg

The FVD Brombacher "sound version" is another popular exhaust for the 986

+1

I own the FVD Brombacher “Sound Version” muffler.

It is absolutely perfect.

BUT, it is very expensive.

I have the stock muffler sitting in my garage if you want to buy it and try the “Crios Mod”.

Search this mod and see what you think.

Good luck, and welcome to the party, Pal!!!

I bought the fab speed and it’s nice, but way too loud. I regret it and am looking to change it out, cost be damned. I don’t enjoy driving the car anymore, it’s that loud. 2nd cat delete, hooked to the headers. Any advice out there?

I have the FVD Brombacher/Danske secondary CAT delete pipes with the Borla cat back exhaust. Sounds great but not too loud. Accentuates the Porsche sound not changing it. Saves a lot of weight and is a true dual set-up. No CEL's and clean ready status for Connecticut emissions. I think total cost delivered to my door was around $1325.00 with new gaskets and hardware. I will add the FVD headers with 200 cells when my car age exceeds the emissions requirements which I believe is 25 years in CT. So much work to do before then, but exhaust was one of the first major projects I did after buying car. Have not regretted it.

I own a 2K S model with the stock exhaust that is a salvage/rebuilt title and an upgrade IMS. It's a cheap car that I love to just run about town in, but the main problem is that I cannot hear the motor with the top down and the wind in my hair save revving past 4K. It's annoying that it is so quiet, actually.. because I love hearing the flat 6 3.2 sing. What is the most cost-effective cat-back system that won't drone too badly. I've thought about something like the $300 kits you see on eBay/Amzn and wonderd if anyone has any experience with them?
Thanks.

This was posted about a month ago in the Craigslist thread. Borla for $300.

FVD Brombacher Sound Version google it and you see the company they specialize in Porsche parts ect...

I like the way Borla sounds, I only use my car for sport driving, and hate the fact that I can barely hear the factory exaust. This might be exactly what I'm looking for.

Consider the Fister exhaust mod.

Here's a video of this setup on my car: https://youtu.be/w1Efeluufu8

I have the base model with the 2.7l. I removed the second set of cats and put some cheap cat delete pipes and had the exhaust modded by Fister in California. I think I paid 600 for the mod and 150 for the cat delete pipes. No drone, not too loud but you can easily make noise when you want to. Has a lovely crackle and pop on overrun.

I think you can mod the muffler with a bypass like it for much cheaper, aka the Pedro mod.

Feel free to direct message me on here or on the YouTube video if easier if you have any questions.

Cristian

I know a guy that did that to his Cayman S, it sounds like a monster.
Too loud for my tastes but they sound great on the track.
