Just bought an "03" Boxter Today!

Just bought an "03" Boxter today. Only has 32K miles. In fantastic shape. I absolutely love driving it. A question that has been bothering the most is the issue with the "IMS" bearing. Should I just go ahead and have the bearing replaced seeing as how I do not have any proof that it has been changed out by either of the (two) 2 previous owners?

First, share a picture. Second, it's "Boxster." As for the IMS bearing, your car most likely has the single row IMS bearing which is more likely to fail. Whether you change it depends upon you, your attitude, and ability to pay a hefty engine replacement bill, should the worst happen. There are many threads on this issue, as you can imagine, and I suggest you search the forum for this topic. Good luck, welcome and enjoy your new Boxster!

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you use the right oil and change it < than the recommended 5k thru 10K miles; I change mine every fall before I store it. Many have gone tens of thousands of miles and/or over 100K miles without any issues, though a small percentage had issues.

Just Drive and Enjoy!
