Looking to buy a 2002 S with 45,000 miles on it at the moment.

Car drives lovely, although I didn't feel the brakes inspired confidence.

Any specific issues? Is 45,000 just before a major service - its coming from a dealer, so if the service interval is 9000 I'd expect them to cover that.

Car is due for service at 45K. Not a major service but expensive none the less. Service interval on a Box is every 15K. 60K is a major service ($1000+) at the dealer.

We ALWAYS recommend a PPI done by a porsche dealer. If you do a search on this topic, you will find TONS OF POSTS.

Ok thanks. Thats really useful to know the serivce intervals, this one's 200 miles over 45k so I know the next question I'll ask when the salesman phones.

The brakes seemed weak also - is this a weak point on Boxsters? This was the first one I've ever driven, need to drive a couple more before making any final decisions.

The brakes are notable strength of the Boxster, especially S. They should inspire confidence - mine are great going into a hairpin turn from 100+ mph at CMP turn 11, truly inspiring. Q for the others: Why would his not inspire confidence?

a. Something wrong with the brakes, or
b. What did you drive before that you're comparing to?

At 45k you could need pads, rotors, flush, or all three.

At good PPI should tell you that.

this is not exact becuase im not looking at a service schedule but,

at 15k you should have had an oil, cabin filter change and inspection at the dealer

at 30k you should have the same plus air filter, change plugs, bleed brakes

at 45k if the car has not had the breaks done, dont be surprised it the brake wear light comes on soon after you take ownership.

i would be weary if the car had never had the 15k and 30k done. if it needs brakes that should be factored into the deal.

the brakes on the boxster are awesome. definately driver another one.
