Buying a non-Calif --- problems?
 

I live in So Calif and have been searching the markets for a 987 S.

One potential candidate has a 05 with very low miles that was purchased in New York and brought to California.

He has had the car smogged, but it has yet to be registered here.

Questions:

Whats involved with "smogging" a non -Calif vehicle ?

Would this potentially cause more problems?

The car is virtually new---and is still covered by warranty.

From my reading of the chart, it appears that the smog check the owner did should be (or should have been) tied to the initial registration of the car in the 31st state.

Thanks SD--- the guys says he had the car smogged, but has not changed registration to CA-- reading your chart it will have to pass a CA smog test

I guess a better question would have been; Do Calif cars have different emission systems than those sold in other states?

i really can't wait to get a Boxster... really looking forward to a top-down tear from Irvine to Qualcomm for Charger games!

Just to be clear, my interpretation is that he should just bring in a copy of the smog test when he/you goes for the registration, assuming you do it within a reasonable time frame, not get a second smog test.

No, Porsche applies "U.S. Standard / Emissions".

That seems like a long way to drive to watch them lose. :)

You will need to smog and register the car in CA. If he has had it smogged in CA, just bring the certificate, as it is likely NOT in the DMV system yet.

Car should pass CA emisions. All cars (save diesel) brought to US are CA compliant.
