Driving tips sought by new owner...

I just bought the car tonight, and it's not even in my possession yet:

I was wondering if some of you old pro's could give me advice on how to treat the cluth and brakes for a) optimal performance, and b) optimal longevity.

Are there any rookie mistakes you help me avoid? Anything wisdom you would like to pass along?

I too am a new owner and would like some tips. Seems odd to drive around town in second or third gear so much, what RPM do most people shift up at for around town driving. Thanks

Just take time to get used to the clutch. When Iam casually driving I shift from 1st-2nd at 3300RPM,2nd-3rd,3rd-4th,4th-5th at 3000 RPM. Whenever I drop under 2000 RPM I downshift. If you bought your car used like me I recommend that you buy Chevron Fuel System Cleaner every 3k miles for 9k. I would also recommend performing some DIY projects on your car unless it has had a service recently. Small projects like a new cabin filter,air filter,oil filter and oil change are fun to do and help you get to learn about your car. If you havent taken a look at the engine yet,you should,learning how to access the engine compartment and looking around and see if anything looks strange or funny. Another tip if not dropping the top under 50 degrees,( I beleive Porsche states 45,not sure) if you have a plastic rear window it can crack or break on you. You should also come to the forum often,you can learn ALOT on here like I have. Welcome abord.

Boy oh Boy those first few weeks of Boxster ownership were humbling.

I killed the engine at least 25 times in first gear. You gotta give it just a little more throttle than you think to keep the engine from sputtering to a stop.

You'll see what I mean.

Also, know that the power is in the 4500 rpm range, where the engine gets nice and loud. But be careful not to redline it because redlines are always stored permanently in the computer and Porsche will use this against you if your engine ever blows.
